In 2022 May-September VŠĮ Sėkmingi vaikai carried out the project “Early intervention and behavior regulation methods based on the principles of applied behavior analysis” funded by the Department of Disabled Affairs at SADM.

In the 16 ac.hours provided for in the project. 57 specialists from social care institutions (day centers, long-term and short-term social care institutions) (delegated by the institution’s administration and/or head) who work with persons with autism spectrum disorders (hereinafter – ASD) or its features, from 14 participated in competence development training Lithuanian municipalities: Kaišiadorių district, Kalvarijos, Kaunas city, Klaipėda city, Kupiškio district, Pakruojo district, Panevėžys city. Raseiniai city, Šiauliai city, Šilalė district, Šilutė district, Švenčioni district, Alytus city, Vilkaviškis.

The aim of the training is to improve the competences of specialists of social care institutions (day centers, long-term and short-term social care institutions) who work with children and adults with ASD or its features, using early interventions and behavior regulation methods based on the principles of applied behavior analysis.

The participants acquired the following competences:

Familiarized with 3 methods of behavior modification in the education of a child/adult with ASD or its traits.
Acquired theoretical knowledge about the possibilities of applicability of applied behavior analysis in educating children with ASD or at risk of it.
The ability to take into account the different abilities and needs of children, to plan and organize the educational process (educational activities) according to the principles of applied behavior analysis, in cooperation with the child, his parents (guardians, carers) and other educational specialists.
An understanding of early intervention and behavior modification techniques for individuals with special needs and the ability to apply at least two behavioral modification techniques to individuals with ASD or its features.
Learned to recognize the characteristics of crisis/problematic behavior of persons with ASS or its features, the ability to analyze the causes that led to them and control them.
The ability to structure and select a safe and educational environment for a person with ASD or its features, both in the early age of autism and later.
Ability to apply special educational measures to individuals with ASD or its features.
The ability to select essential information about the needs of families raising a person with ASD or its features and to introduce them to (or refer to) a national support network to ensure communication appropriate to the needs of a person with ASD or its features.
